SETTING: A short drive from downtown Chiang Mai, this charming French restaurant only provides seating for 16, either in the bold red and gold dining room or on the poolside balcony.
FOOD: The menu here is not large so making a choice is not a problem. Quality not quantity seems to be the adage because the dishes are exquisitely prepared and absolutely delicious. Pan-fried foie gras with white toast is especially delectable. Another must-try starter is clear guinea fowl soup or sea scallops salad for a healthier option. For mains, there is beef tenderloin with pepper sauce, rack of lamb speckled with droplets of mint sauce, plus sea bass and salmon. The only two choices of dessert, crepes suzette in a Grand Marnier sauce and almond flakes with vanilla ice cream, are divine
and creative.
WINE: Modest list from Australia, the US, France, South Africa and Chile priced from 800 to 3,800 baht.
SERVICE: Waiters provide courteous and charming service, yet remaining indiscreet.
PRICE: Dinner for two, no wine, costs about 3,000 baht. Set menus are 1,600-2,200 baht. |
