SETTING: Set in a multi-level glass-walled house on Soi Langsuan, Calderazzo serves some of the best Italian food in Bangkok.
FOOD: In four short years, Marco Calderazzo's easy-going manner and use of strong-flavoured, fresh ingredients from Australia, Italy and New Zealand have made this one of Bangkok's top Italian restaurants. Antipasti misti platter, ostensibly for two, features huge, succulent, richly flavoured Australian scallops, grilled Italian sausages on creamy potatoes, artichoke salad, parma ham and white asparagus. Or start with ortolanan, marinated mixed grilled vegetables with Tasmanian goat cheese in a tomato pesto salsa. A large selection of pastas and risottos includes stracci, hand-rolled rag pasta filled with Tasmanian goat cheese and lamb strozzapreti. Stunning fish dishes such as grilled barramundi grace the entrees. Dessert is a difficult choice, but try seven-cheese carosello of Italian, Australian and Kiwi cheeses.
WINE: An extensive list of over 150 vintages from Australia, New Zealand and Italy.
SERVICE: Excellent service by friendly, bilingual, attentive, well-trained staff.
PRICE: Two can dine very well without wine for less than 3,000 baht. |
