SETTING: Flavors located just off bustling Patong Beach Road is a spacious steel-and-glass, subdued-lit eatery.
FOOD: Chef Arkom Polyiam, from Roi Et, is well known for his light and magic touch with herbs as well as his talent for food presentation. Chiang Mai avocado with blue crabmeat and capsicum sauce is wrapped in cucumber skin and a delight, visually and tastewise, served with grilled parmesan and sliced apple. The restaurant's bakery is not to be sniffed at either, presenting an adequate culinary arsenal of hard, full-corn and white breads. The red Japanese tuna is equal to the blue crab in presentation and has a startling freshness, all served with a tang of lemon. Grilled fillet of sole with mixed seafood in a white wine sauce and flambe dill sauce is wholesome and, again, a vision. Dessert, crepes suzette, has to be seen to be believed as it literally drips with flavour and decor.
WINE: A list ranging from full-bodied Old World to light New World labels.
SERVICE: Discreet, polite and effective, totally in harmony with the atmosphere.
PRICE: An evening for two minus wine will cost about 1,300 baht. |
