SETTING: Given the Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi's opulence, Fujian is surprisingly small, casual, yet elegantly outfitted in a Sino-Portuguese style.
FOOD: Lovers of Chinese cuisine will be spoiled for choice here with the extensive menu which is a successful balance of traditional tastes with creative flair. Start off with Shanghai hairy crab, surprisingly sweet, or refreshing and light fresh crabmeat rice paper rolls. Main dishes include such highlights as stewed African fresh abalone in oyster sauce and stewed e-fu noodles with crabmeat, chives and bean sprouts. A highly recommended dish is steamed and glazed grouper fillet with Yunnan ham. Jujube pancake is a perfect end to the meal.
WINE: An excellent wine list at reasonable prices. Organic wines are also offered such as the Alsace Riesling Zind Humbrecht 2001.
SERVICE: Friendly and impeccably trained staff.
PRICE: While a meal for two should not cost more than 1,000 baht without wine, themore expensive dishes such as shark's fin soup and abalone can shoot up the price. |
