SETTING: An elegant wood-floored building with a high ceiling, tastefully decorated with antique tables, chairs and wall hangings reflecting Thai, Indonesian and Central Asian themes.
FOOD: Some magnificent dishes served here, thanks to the skill and creativity of the chef. Winged bean spicy salad is probably the best in Bangkok, with big pieces of squid and some shrimps, plus peanuts and a hard-boiled egg, alongside the usual onions, chilli and other mildly piquant treasures. Thai tuna salad cleverly uses chunks of fresh tuna amid onions, peanuts, shredded mango and plenty of mint leaves and lettuce. Chicken wrapped with pandanus leaves brings five big, soft chunks veiled by leaves and dabbed with a delicious sweet sauce. Steamed sea bass with chilli and lime sauce is a divine, modest-sized fish smothered in fresh garlic slices, onion, chilli and lemon, plus mint leaves. Meals are tasty and enjoyable.
WINE: More than 30 bottles of well-chosen reds and whites.
SERVICE: Experienced staff hovers close while delicately servicing diners' needs.
PRICE: For 2,000 baht, two people can experience a truly wonderful meal without wine. |
