SETTING: Comfortable, relaxed environment that enhances the notion that the food is more important than the decor.
FOOD: From start to finish Gianni's dishes evoke a certain pride in great home cooking and the owner Gianni Favro is happy to come to the table and help in selecting from the many antipasti, pasta, fish and meat dishes on offer. Baked lasagne is packed with a creamy mixture of bolognese, bechamel and parmesan cheese. Black home-made spaghetti is perfectly complemented with tossed clams, prawn and green asparagus. Of the meat dishes, roast rack of lamb served simply in its own gravy and flavoured with a hint of rosemary and garlic is perhaps the pick. Grilled salmon with a prosecco wine sauce and baked fillet of red snapper simply prepared with cherry tomatoes, celery and olives are always excellent. A variety of very good desserts are also on offer.
WINE: A fine selection of some of the best Italian labels.
SERVICE: Regulars are well looked after by the attentive and interested staff. Newcomers need to work a little to get the same attention sometimes.
