SETTING: Located along the foothills of Doi Suthep, this charming Mediterranean restaurant in a converted 70s house has both indoor and outdoors dining.
FOOD: Chef Kike Garcia is constantly changing his menu, retaining the house favourites while adding exciting new additions. Simple but delicious
appetisers such as garlic prawns with chilli and olive oil vie with more creative offerings that include mizuna salad on a bed of smoked salmon rolls stuffed with semi-dried
tomatoes, marinated crab meat and deep-fried oysters. The highlight of the menu is saffron infused lobster paella which has to be ordered two days in advance, but serves
four persons. Less ambitious dishes include numerous pastas and risottos. There is a fine selection of meats and fish including perennial favourite char-grilled Australian
lamb chops on top of rosti potatoes and ratatouilles, with rosemary red wine sauce. The dessert sampler allows diners to taste up to three of the desserts on the menu.
WINE: A fine selection of rioja, both white and red, with some interesting vintages. The less expensive but refreshing sangria is available in glasses and jugs.
SERVICE: Friendly and helpful staff but obviously in need of more training. However, chef Kike’s wife, Annie, a co-owner, is always around to offer suggestions and recommendations.
PRICE: A three-course meal for two without wines is about 1,500 baht. |
