SETTING: Located in the centre of Chaweng, Rice with its modern, slick decor is an elegant option for the younger set.
FOOD: Chef Luca Mancini's creative menu includes starters such as zesty tuna tartar with soya dressing, crunchy potatoes and green sauce, and plump tiger prawns with poached green asparagus and quail eggs with yoghurt hollandaise. One of the specialities of the house is beef carpaccio with rocket, mushroom and parmesan salad. For truly sumptuous main course options, try succulent roasted duck breast served with new potatoes, onion saute in tarragon sauce or risotto with raddichio lettuce and gorgonzola cheese toasted with Barolo wine. Desserts such as chocolate flan with Campari reduction and toffee parfait with chocolate and yoghurt sauce topped with caramelised nuts are a delight.
WINE: A good selection of exclusively Italian wine, with a bias towards red. The waiters are helpful and offer suggestions.
SERVICE: Unobtrusive, but friendly and attentive service. Perfect between-course timing.
PRICE: A three-course meal for two is 1,800 baht without wine. Steaks push the price up. |
