SETTING: Silk occupies a large area on the penthouse floor of the upmarket Surin Plaza with a beautifully lit dining room.
FOOD: Silk's Thai chef was formerly at the exclusive Amanpuri Resort. A combination of four starters served as a platter, comprising fresh spring rolls, chicken in pandanus leaves, fish cakes and Phuket prawns wrapped in noodles is impressive. Another dish well-worth trying is minced blue crabmeat and prawn that comes with a cooling mint sauce. Silk's Thai salads are a good choice for the health conscious, from the ubiquitous larb gai to a banana blossom salad. Also try mouth-watering soft-shell crabs with a hint of chilli, garlic and fresh basil. Silk has a wide selection of curries to suit the most discerning of Western tastes. Massamun gai is a local favourite, and Silk's own interpretation of this curry is excellent. You will not be disappointed by the white and dark Belgium chocolate mousse as a fitting finale.
WINE: Sommelier Stephen Roberto is behind the impressive New World wine list.
SERVICE: Attentive and discreet, the timing between courses gives you time to relax.
PRICE: A dinner for two, minus wine, will cost less than 2,200 baht. |
