SETTING: Arguably the most impressive rooftop dining setting in Bangkok, with a fun bar and excellent jazz band.
FOOD: Renowned for its dinners featuring celeb international chefs, Sirocco's menu uses high-quality imported ingredients. The challenges of open-air, high-altitude dining means that some of the items can be inconsistent in quality. Still, the food here is creatively presented and occasionally sublime. For starters, pan-fried scallops with riesling butter are succulent, huge and sweet, while Alaskan king crab cake and fried calamari in a light mustard cream served atop mesclun is scrumptious. Pan-seared foie gras is fresh, offering a delight against cranberry compote. Stir-fried black pepper crab casserole is a delicious, fresh take on a classic Asian dish. Fish lovers have a number of tantalising choices, seared Scottish salmon fillet and grilled Maine lobster with sea urchin butter among them.
WINE: A very good wine list of 100 plus vintages features both Old and New World wines.
SERVICE: Pleasant, bilingual staff can offer wine-meal pairings.
PRICE: Two can dine without wine for 5,000 baht or more. |
