SETTING: With its down-to-earth style, The Duke's accomplishes what it sets out to do: take a typically North American steak and seafood restaurant and bring it to Thailand.
FOOD: The dishes are not exactly ingenious and the restaurant itself is not extravagantly decorated, but what The Duke's offers is steak, ribs and seafood dishes that are a cut above most restaurants that offer similar dishes. Be warned the portions are gigantic. The Duke's ribs as a starter is easily the best ribs in the city, a rich, tangy sauce smattering meat that falls off the bone easily. Another wholesome meaty starter is beef kebabs. Less substantial are the seafood options. The Duke's forte is its steaks. Filet mignon is splendid as is rib-eye steak and sirloin steak, cooked in that perfect way that leaves layers of different tastes throughout the meat. For dessert, apple pie is as good as back home if not better.
WINE: Small selection of affordable wines from France, Argentina and Chile.
SERVICE: The staff is friendly and attentive despite being rushed off their feet.
PRICE: Dinner for two without wine costs about 1,500 baht. |
