SETTING
A lovely old Thai house, right on the beachfront. You can dine in any one of three areas, as the house itself offers two options: the downstairs is glassed in and air-conditioned, and the upstairs has the simplicity of the old house’s interior, with excellent sea views. Then of course there is seating in the garden.
FOOD
The owners run the successful Anna’s restaurants in Bangkok and have brought in management and staff from there to ensure that this new restaurant gets off to a good start. The menu offers a good range with at least 11 appetisers to select from. An interesting and very tasty suggestion here is yum apple, a fresh apple spicy salad. There are over 20 choices for the main course – difficult for the decision-making process – but stir-fried giant prawns with garlic and pepper is a real treat. If you can hold out for just one more course, the desserts offered will not disappoint. There are several ice flakes, banana pan-fried or baked, toffee banoffi, and two fruit mousses, all of which will appeal to those with a sweet tooth.
WINES
There is an even mix of red and white wines to choose from, about a dozen selections in all. They are mostly new world wines and all at reasonable and affordable prices.
SERVICE
The manager, Chalor Noypun, has brought his experience from the Bangkok restaurants with him and keeps a sharp eye on the staff. The waiters and waitresses are all simply dressed in colourful shirts and have a very pleasant but efficient manner in their approach to serving diners.
PRICE
Medium range. Two people can have a good meal without wine for about 1,600 baht.
