SETTING
Situated in a hidden soi off Patpong, this eatery is worth checking out for some classic French dishes. Not a big place, but its compactness, decor and white table cloths provide the ambience of a French bistro. There is also a small terrace available for those who enjoy people watching as they eat.
FOOD
A longtime favourite of locals and expatriates, the restaurant has a rather classy menu that allows you to explore traditional French dishes. For appetisers, try assiette de charcuterie of four assorted pates and a variety of cold meats with bread, or a hot dish, escargots de bourgogne, presenting half a dozen snails with special herb butter. Both are a good start to the meal. For a different type of main course, order classic lapin chasseur, rabbit sauteed in wine, a traditional French dish that is not easily available. Those who are fond of fish will enjoy darnes de saumon grillees, or grilled salmon steak with hollandaise sauce, featuring fish that is fresh and cooked just right. Another tasty dish is gambas frite et pomme frites, fried shrimp with french fries and tartare sauce, which comes in a generous portion and really fills you up. There is a limited dessert list but worth trying is plateau de fromages, an assortment of cheese. For the sweet-toothed, profiteroles au chocolat satisfies both the sugar and chocolate cravings.
WINES
Not an extensive selection of wines. Most are from France and priced very reasonably, from 800 to 1,650 baht.
SERVICE
Staff is very helpful with the menu but not very attentive by any standards.
PRICE
Not expensive. For 1,200 baht two can enjoy a good meal without wine.
