A long hall with red-and-white walls dotted by dining tables adorned with pale cream cloth. Street-level windows view passing cars. A few steps up is an internal, courtly chamber which is also elegant, informal and bright.

FOOD

Good food bursting with variety and creativity from a kitchen trying to attract a following. While Da Giggetto caesar salad is good, sporting all the right ingredients, wild mushroom on rocket salad is much better with its super foundation of warm, chopped mushrooms boosting the rocket’s flavours. Pan-fried salmon and sun-dried tomato cream sauce is big and excellent, with the fish in a mild, tomato-cream sauce perched atop a potato. Spaghetti spicy anchovy is also good, and can satisfy a need for pasta that can smoulder but not burn your tongue. The menu is modest but lures with lamb – including cutlets with juniper berry and garlic – plus veal and tenderloin dishes, alongside seafood, pasta, risotto and pizza. Dessert, however, lags slightly with baked peach which is merely OK with its sliced fruit amid a custard-like cream and some sliced nuts on top.

WINES

Some expensive wines, along with affordable choices, mostly from Italy and France, along with American, Chilean and one Australian. Beni di Batasiolo Nebbiolo Langhe 2000 is a fine Italian red.

SERVICE

By now, the desperate-to-talk staff may have quieted, but you might suffer repeated conversational intrusions and questions. However, the friendliness includes taking good care of diners.

PRICE

About 1,500 baht buys a nice meal for two, without drinks.
