SETTING
Open-air thatched roof salas house several tables set amidst a simple garden on a quiet stretch of beach. The kitchen area is a traditional Samui house that adds to the restaurant’s rustic charm.
FOOD
Owner/chef Nual offers a full array of Thai and Western dishes for breakfast through to dinner, but most diners come for her seafood. The aromas coming from the kitchen make your mouth water in anticipation. For starters, order baked mussels, each cooked to perfection in their own well in an earthenware pan. Other house specialties include crispy curry prawn patties, steamed squid with mini pork balls and chicken satay. The selection of seafood and cooking styles make it difficult to choose: steamed, fried, barbequed or grilled with Nual’s own home-made sauces. Try fried red snapper with sides of clarified garlic butter and lemon, garlic and chilli sauce for dipping; the fish is perfectly cooked, crispy golden on the outside with tender flakes on the inside. Fried crab proves just as tasty; large morsels deep fried and served with garlic and pepper sauce. Order ahead for special dishes, such as grilled lobster. For those with a sweet tooth, try light but satisfying pineapple flambe or banana in warm coconut milk.
WINES
House wines only, but a good selection of spirits and cocktails including house specials.
