SETTING
More than Japanese minimalism but retaining the clean straight lines. A central glassed-in, air-conditioned sala is surrounded by well-stocked koi ponds and a covered terrace all round. Japanese tables have footwells for the non-athletic.
FOOD
The menu features more than 200 items and all unmistakably Japanese; fortunately the majority are listed with photographs, essential for the non-Japanese diner. The sushi and barbeque chefs each have 15 years’ experience in Tokyo. The central barbeque area set into the marble-topped table has a partial vacuum extraction system to keep smoke and odours down and various condiments are already supplied on the table such as sesame oil, as you cook the food to your own taste. Special sauces will come with different items and these are explained by the service personnel. Salmon in miso soup must be experienced, appearing in its own fluted paper dish over a flame, with the salmon being poached as you watch, imparting a subtle flavour to the miso soup which is also packed with vegetables. Prawn lovers will enjoy ebi salted prawns that are first cousins to rock lobsters; they are so large. There is a large selection of sushi and sashimi dishes as well.
WINES
Very limited selection, but most are under 1,000 baht. House wine is 80 baht per glass. Cocktails, beers, sake and green tea are also available.
SERVICE
Delightfully happy young ladies in Japanese tunic outfits provide atentive service. Restaurant captain speaks good English.
PRICE
An interesting Japanese barbeque and starter can be enjoyed for about 900 baht for two people, excluding wine or sake.
