SETTING

A clear big sign in red ensures you will not miss this chic new restaurant. Floor-to-ceiling glass looking out on a wooden deck for those who wish to dine al fresco offers a view of traffic whizzing down busy Soi Langsuan. One part of the restaurant has walls painted in soft cream, while another section is in red. Trendy and fashionable, yet casual. Table linen in classic white and cream.

FOOD

Listen to old Italian favourites and golden oldies music while browsing the menu written in Italian, English and Thai. A highlight of the antipasti selection is mussels from New Zealand offered in different preparations; try mussels in white wine sauce, given the added kick with chunks of garlic and chopped chilli. For something different from the usual salad menu, soft-shell crab served with a generous portion of rocket salad and cherry tomatoes in balsamic vinegar is truly exotic. Special home-made lasagna is with pork instead of the traditional beef. Taking the name of the restaurant, linguini alla Romanina is with seafood while pizze alla Romanina is topped with ham, bacon, mushrooms and cheese. A good selection of meat and fish for the main course, with steaks and lamb from Australia. Roast rack of lamb is succulent, cooked with porcini mushrooms and served with boiled spinach and mashed potatoes; it makes a nice, whole-some meal. Desserts include daily home-made cake, ice cream cake, creme caramel, tiramisu and tartufo.

WINES

Italian, French as well as Californian, Australian, Chilean, and five Romanian wines including merlot and cabernet sauvignon available. Very affordable, between 450-500 baht a bottle.
