SETTING
An urban house converted into a comfortable restaurant decked with Thai handicrafts and curios, this place also has a backyard bar area which opens onto a petanque lawn for people who want to try their hand at outdoor French bowling. A garden beckons diners.
FOOD
Foreigner-friendly Thai dishes, inspired by Isan cooking, barbeque and other traditions, make this an easy place to enjoy a good meal. Wing bean salad with shrimp is bathed in a sauce reminiscent of barbeque flavours, and is an exciting starter. Fresh lemongrass salad is even better and a must-try, resulting in a tart and tangy bowl of crunchy goodness. Grilled sea bass is fantastic, cooked to a precise dryness that locks in a deliciously rustic taste. Grilled duck red curry is adequate, with slices of meat in a bowl of soup-like curry and other ingredients. Desserts centre mostly on ice cream, and chocolate topped with powdered chocolate is fun. Many dishes are mildly spiced yet still piquant and able to delight people who do not desire very spicy food but want to try new dining experiences.
WINES
A dozen or so French whites and reds include enough good choices to accompany any meal. Aperitifs, vodka and whisky are also available.
SERVICE
Immediate and attentive service, supported by the owners’ generous attendance, ensures meals proceed with smoothness and hospitality.
PRICE
Not too expensive. Two people can have a nice dinner in pleasant surroundings for about 1,000 baht without wine.
