SETTING
Perched on the hilltop overlooking Kalim and Patong Bay, Lim’s façade and interior are strikingly modern, with stunning ikebana and abstract art from Lim’s gallery next door.
FOOD
Perfectly attuned to the decor, Lim’s fare is thoroughly modern Thai in presentation and flavour. Perusing the simple menu with a freshly prepared mango daiquiri at hand is a great way to start the evening. A mixed hors d’oeuvres selection of shrimp rolls, grilled pork ribs and honey coated chicken satay with a couple of spicy dips is delicious and presents a perfect opportunity to open a bottle of the excellent Arrowfield 99, a dark crimson new world shiraz. Entrees include a steamed sea bass with lemon juice, which is poached to perfection. However, the chef’s coup is well-lauded roast duck red curry, with lean fillets of breast in a fruit-laden light curry sauce. A capitulation in the direction of Lim’s sofas swiftly follows, clutching the remains of the Arrowfield. Decaffeinated coffee with or without a traditional Thai dessert is a nice ending to a nice dining experience.
WINES
A hand-picked selection from Lim’s tiny cellar proves more than adequate, with interesting reds and the house white, a South African Backberg chenin blanc, is intriguing.
SERVICE
Always attentive, the restaurant manager pulls the strings of what is by now a well-tuned quartet.
