SETTING
A large bull opposite, on Patak Road, points the way to the beautiful garden setting of this restaurant occupying the entire first floor of the Bougainvillea Terrace Resort. Complete with a lit pool, an outdoor misting system and elegant lighting, the word “atmospheric” hardly does this location justice.
FOOD
Generous antipasto misto with carpaccio beef, parma ham and slivers of delicious gruyere cheese is the perfect match for a new world merlot. Baskets of home-made ciabatta bread go admirably with complimentary pesto vinaigrette and tomato cerviche dips. Entrees include an excellent red snapper, New Zealand rack of lamb, and tiger prawns in a delicious aioli sauce. Heavily featured is a choice of well-selected and properly aged imported beef, served up with a variety of delicious Argentinean-inspired sauces. Rib- eye with creamed leaf spinach proves an excellent choice, nicely washed down with a cabernet sauvignon. King prawn salad is excellent, followed by a succulent duck fillet with braised peach and orange sauce. An exotic selection of desserts or cheeses is an after-dinner option, but given the generosity of the previous courses, cheese can seem slightly superfluous. The restaurant is Swiss-owned, and it shows. Locanda also features an extensive Thai menu.
WINES
The wine is managed by Wine Connection, so diners can be assured of a thoroughly professional and broad-ranging variety. Enter the air-conditioned cellar/shop and spend a few minutes selecting your tipple. The prices are surprisingly reasonable.
SERVICE
The staff is well trained and attentive, yet discreet. Both food and wine are served with competence.
PRICE
Expect to pay in the region of 2,000 baht for two, for a really hearty dinner without wine.
