SETTING
Wander through Zen gardens to Mom Tri’s spectacular terrace restaurant, perched cliff-side above crashing surf and sunset splendour.
FOOD
Mom Tri’s is a well-run restaurant serving classic seafood and international favourites, with the emphasis on fresh ingredients, some from the owner’s farm in Chiang Mai. The hors d’oeuvre selection is vast, featuring excellent sauteed tiger prawns with mango and salmon blinis, and sweet-and-sour aubergine roll. The local mussels are tiny but delicious, served three to a shell in a cream sauce. Service is unhurried, with lots of time to take in the gorgeous seascape panorama below. The entrees are equally ambitious with sea bass on offer in five different styles, representing Phuket fare at its best. For a change from seafood try lamb cutlets pan-roasted with parmesan and served medium rare with mashed potato that has more than a hint of black olive and feta cheese. The house specialty, rock lobster, is served in a light curry sauce. The desserts look marvellous and with meal portions generous throughout, you may find it difficult to find room for one. Finish with tea or coffee instead.
WINES
Mom Tri’s Kitchen has the benefit of having access to one of the best cellars on the island, close by at another restaurant belonging to the same owner, so the wine selection more than complements the fare.
SERVICE
Friendly and courteous, but bring a phrase book if you want to chat.
PRICE
A couple dining at Mom Tri’s without wine will pay about 2,000 baht.
