SETTING
On the very busy Pattaya Second Road, Paradise is a quiet respite from the hustle and bustle. Floor to high-ceiling tropical murals and quality table settings add ambience. Along the far wall is the glassed-in spotless kitchen.
FOOD
Owner Hans Banziger is a Swiss-trained chef with international experience and this shows in his menu. For European specialites, try pork Zurich-style or mussels in white wine sauce. Having worked in many countries, he is equally adept at producing a German beef curry or an Indian version. There is also a selection of Thai favourites, an important aspect when dining with Thai companions. These days, however, he has become the acknowledged master in Pattaya for
exotic foods, including emu, ostrich, kangaroo and crocodile. Exotic Quartet is an excellent starting off point for sampling exotic cuisine.
Hans believes this is the only restaurant in Thailand offering this opportunity. The monthly specials are always worthwhile perusing.
WINES
Small selection from both new and old worlds. House wines are Chilean and good value at 800 baht per bottle, and can be purchased by the glass or carafe. Most wines fall within the 990-1,300 baht bracket.
SERVICE
Owner Hans Banziger meets every customer when possible, but will always make sure he personally says goodbye. The staff is obliging, but all queries will be answered by the omnipresent Hans.
PRICE
A good dinner for two, without wine, will be enjoyed for well under 1,000 baht.
