The Cup

European/English
3rd fl, Lake Rajada Office Complex, 193/21-22 Ratchadapisek Road, Bangkok 10110

SETTING

The tables next to the front window have a lovely view of Benjakitti park lake but can be a little warm from the afternoon sunshine. The Cup has the look and feel of an English tea room.

FOOD

Traditional English dishes are mixed with a delightful assortment of European offerings in a somewhat Thai way. French onion soup, for example, has a slightly spicy taste no doubt aimed at satisfying the predominantly wellattired Thai female clientele of the ladies who lunch crowd. The food is always well prepared and the vegetables organically grown. Rocket salad with Italian sausage, dripped with balsamic vinegar, is excellent accompanied by crisp garlic pita bread. The roasts, pork, beef or lamb, do indeed remind one of English home cooking, and the selection of pastries and pies could not round off the meal better. The Cup has been around for a long time and rarely changes its menu and in reality there seems no reason why it should.

WINES

Mostly good French wines available at a decent price but as the restaurant is not open for dinner this is not a place where one would see serious wine drinkers having their meals.

SERVICE

Most of the staff have been with The Cup for a long time and have got used to some slightly eccentric ways. Food for example is invariably served whenever it is ready from the kitchen on a one by one basis.

PRICE

A three-course lunch for two without wine will come to less than 2,000 baht. You might also want to spend an extra 200 baht or so on some take-away pastries for afternoon tea.
