SETTING
A South Pacific setting complete with wooden tikis, tropical paintings, voodoo icons and delightful flourishes. Formal yet fun. Outdoor
tables are set along the Chao Phraya River.
FOOD
Great tasting food which concentrates on sauces and spices to tease special flavours from its dishes. Lobster and avocado salad is a good
beginning with its tiny cubes of lobster, avocado and tomato, plus some needle mushrooms under a Tahitian cocktail sauce. Trader Vic’s salad is delicious thanks to its drenching Javanese dressing. Lomi-lomi is mild and subtle-tasting, with tiny cubes of fresh, marinated salmon amid chilli, onions, sprouts and lime. Jamaican jerked chicken is an excellent, plump, tender, blackened bird set next to a scoop of mashed potatoes and some greens. Chinatown duck is also excellent
and similarly huge and plump, offering a leg on the bone, accompanied by steamed white rice, braised bok choy and plum sauce. The cakes for desssert are also nice.
WINES
A vast wine list selects great American, Italian and French bottles, plus other countries, but more exciting are drinks based on a tropical island theme, including a hot Black Stripe rumand-honey, and a cool Trader Vic’s punch of rum, fruit and almond.
SERVICE
Waitresses in ankle-length skirts split up to the thigh, with a flower behind the ear, complete the Polynesian fantasy but may be occasionally busy with diners.
PRICE
For about 2,500 baht, two people can revel in a good meal, without drinks.
